According to official rankings, Germany, Spain, England, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, France and Russia are the strongest teams to qualify for the finals.
It’s worth noting the omission of Holland who surprisingly didn’t qualify after a disastrous qualifying campaign. It does seem somewhat odd that we will be watching Wales in their first major international competition in years rather than the usual suspects.
As always, England fans will be gripped by symptoms of over-optimism but can the team put together on May 31 be serious competition for the likes of Spain and Germany.
The likelihood is no, Spain, Germany and even Belgium will be too strong for most of the other teams and with the added incentive of three straight Euro trophies, Spain will stand out as competition favourites.
So what can we hope for England? Making it out the group stages is likely but I fear we won’t progress much further.
